My name is Cate Franklyn and I am a contemporary urban photographer born and raised in Astoria, Queens, New York.  I came to this vocation in mid-life, and in trying to find my photographic niche I remembered the axiom for novice writers: write what you know.  I altered that to: photograph what you know, and what I know is my neighborhood.

My images reflect what I see as I walk along the streets of Astoria, Queens and her sister boroughs; Manhattan, Brooklyn, Bronx & Staten Island, with a focus on the grit and grunge of an urban landscape. I consider my photography art, and as much as I enjoy working with my camera I equally enjoy working in the digital darkroom.  I use post processing software, like a painter would use a brush and paint to make creative enhancements of what I have seen through the camera and what my mind’s eye is seeing.

  1. I very much enjoyed looking at your photographs. I got distracted from the Freshly Pressed where I found your blog. Congratulations on being FP. I marked “like” for my favorite posts, but enjoyed viewing all of them 🙂

  2. I just wanted to drop a line and say I dig your work. I also wanted to pass on a name of a photographer you my enjoy. Mark Perrott out of Pittsburgh. I stumbled across him because my wife is into urban exploration/photography and really likes Eastern State Penn. Mr. Perrott happened to have done a photo essay book on ESP called Hope Abandoned. Nice guy. He actually went out of his way to sign a copy of his book for me.
Anyway, Great shots and I look forward to seeing more
